Timișoara Fashion School – 2.0 (2021, actually) version.

Collection inspired by pandemic times. Colours related to Earth and nature. Social projects. Recycled and upcycled fabrics & clothes. Sport & urban inspiration. This is the summary of the 15 graduates collections from Timișoara Fashion School, West University (MDVTM), for 2021.

I saw only the pictures, and I was so sorry that neither in 2020, nor in 2021 I wasn’t there, live, to see the graduate collections of the Fashion schools in Romania in some cool galas, as usual. Still, nice to see that the young designer didn’t loose their creativity and energy. In alphabetical order, 15 graduates collections from Timișoara Fashion School, West University (MDVTM), for 2021.

Deborah Băhnaru – Captive – a project strongly related to the experiences and personal emotions during the pandemic times. Black & white, light & darkness, some fluid fabrics and rigid textures – all of them symbolise the contradictory feelings during the challenging times. (Photography: Silviu Preda)

Gabriela Ioana Babos – Harababura – there is an order behind the apparent chaos, she said. The young designer put on display 6  (not so ordinary) outfits: it is about a capsule collection, made out of recycled and upcycled pieces, fabrics and plastic scraps. (Photography: Alina Bălănescu. Models: Nikolo Michel Gloire, Giorgia Anemona. Make-up & Hairstyle: Alessia Vlad.)

Ana-Maria Căpraru – Contagious – multi-functionality is the theme of the collection. The sport outfits, the practical details (zippers and pockets all over the place), the colours just perfect for an urban escape and the good & nice to feel fabrics are the main characteristics for the collection. Adelina Cârstea – Forced Rebirth – is a collection that put the pandemic time in a romantic perspective (yep, I raised my eyebrow, as well). The collection puts in the spotlight the volumetric elements of the outfits, the manufacture details and the multiple layerings. In pink & purple. (Photography: Alina Bălănescu)

Iosefina Casonatto – a collection just in drawings, so far. The message: “Form, harmony or function? It can be a moment, a touch or simply the breath you had after an event full of tension, the habit through the consumer copes with a demanding environment.”

Valentina Cerbe – Ascendent în zeitate – a collection that puts a romantic vibe into the looks, recreating the symbiotic connection between celeste & mundane. A lot of layerings, floral prints and fluid materials distort the real perception and transform the character that try the outfits. (Photography: Adrian Albu. Model: Valentina Cerbe)

Sorina Alina Chira – Gentle Soul – the collection has a personal story to tell: about the trust in others and in yourself, about our strengths needed to overcome life’s challenges, about the future. The aesthetics of the collections borrows some elements from equestrian field, uses some earth tones and natural fabrics. (Photography:  Tănasie Constantin Victorian. Teodora Dolga – Simultan – a cool sport capsule-collection for 2021, for a unisex/ genderless style. I loved the comobo of grey & yellow (the two colours chosen for 2021 of Pantone Institute). The young designer intended, with the outfits, to put the focus on Timișoara as “city of lights” using an urban aesthetics and a cool cut, infused with the solar yellow spots. Maria Gliga – The distance between us – the creative pretext of the collection is inspired by the actual social dynamic. It may be, as well, a demonstration of the connexion between the textile, humans and their feelings. (Photography: Maria Dogar. Models: Andreea Manea, Irksousi Mohamed.)

Octavian Grancea – Concept Outside the line – “The collection intends to overcome the limits imposed by the society. The looks are inspired by the camp style, have geometrical patterns manually painted and an atemporal line that makes us think at minimalist street art.” (Photography: Fabian Alin)

Andrei Karina – I didn’t have any clue about the title or about the concept, but I loved the photographies – a kind of manga disco party inspired.

Alma Preda – orquidEA – The 6 looks ready-to-wear of this feminine collection have, as a central pattern, the orchid flower. Feminine & delicate, the pieces were hand-made cut, from delicate petals of fabric in pastel colours, in innovative shapes. (Photograpy: Papp Zoltan)

Denisa Țărcuș – Influence. Sources of inspirationof this collection: the architecture and the new series Brave New World. The outfits are perfect for the citizens of the new world, are comfy & fluid, glam & casual at the same time, with straight angles and wavy cuts. (Photography: Alina Bălănescu. Model: Giorgia Anemona.)

Ana Țundrea – Bent not broken – “The human body was always formed & deformed, in a permanent game of born and acquired. The creative pretext of the project is to explore the medical corsets and their relation with the body. And wants to offer an aesthetically improvement of the medical equipment and to underline the beauty of every body. Bent, not broken.” Beautiful ideea!

Andreea Ungureanu – Pământesc – the collection recalls the nature and the simplicity of living. The inspiration: trenches and the shirt dresses derived from the traditional blouses. The shades are all from earth palette and the collars’ details found their origin in sailors looks. (Models: Filip Miriam, Ursu Raluca)
