You are present in the RDW Young Design section at Romanian Design Week 2024. Which qualities/ strengths made you make it to the list? What do you think?

It’s an honour for me to be present in the RDW Young Design section. Making clothes is my form of therapy and I think my raw emotions can be seen throughout my collection. My dramatic vision over fashion and my theatrical way of thinking regarding shapes and volumes are my main strengths when it comes to making art.

For you, as a designer, the fashion world is made of…

It is made out of a bunch of misfits who have something to say, but can’t use words so we express ourselves through clothes.

Which are the biggest challenges for a young designer nowadays?

Trying to get our name out there and be taken seriously, but that can be possible by working hard and producing constantly. Also, the financial aspect is a challenge being a young independent designer. Trying to achieve a high level of quality can be expensive.

Let’s talk about social media and AI a little bit. 🙂 Friends, enemies?

Social Media is my biggest friend when it comes to promoting and putting my work into the world. All my collaborations with stylists, pop stars or clients come from Instagram. It’s like an online portfolio. I think of it like a tool, which, used properly, can bring you a lot of exposure. I’m aware about AI in fashion, but never used it. Maybe the fashion world still needs the raw human side of it, right?

Name 3 moments that define you as a designer.

Seeing the 2009 Horn of Plenty by Alexander McQueen at 12 years old changed my life forever. Never resonated with something more deeply before. I felt seen in a way, I felt like darkness can be beautiful. Winning the prize for best collection of the year at UNArte Gala made me realize maybe I’ve got a place in the Romanian fashion scene. The process of making a collection is a defining moment for every designer. You discover yourself more and you get the chance to put your vision into the world.

The designer you would like to ask for a coffee and a piece of advice would be…

I’m assuming the designer must be alive, so I’m choosing Daniel Roseberry.

You wish you have invented…

A time machine. Just to see the world before me and the world after me.

What is next for you – this year (school, collections, exhibitions etc.)?

This year has been amazing thus far. I got the opportunity to display one of my dress at MARe. Also, I’m working on my new collection which will be out on May 24 during Romanian Creative Week. I am very excited for it.

* Romanian Design Week is the multidisciplinary festival dedicated to creative industries, organized by The Institute, presented by UniCredit Bank and financed by the Ministry of Culture. This year it will take place between May 24 and June 2 in Bucharest, in the building of the former CINA restaurant (Benjamin Franklin, no. 10), near the Romanian Athenaeum. This year’s edition invites the public to explore the city and discover its potential, while investigating the ways in which creativity and innovation can shape the urban spaces of the future, under the theme “Unlock the city”.

* About RDW Young Design… 29 young designers and architects will be able to be seen in an exhibition dedicated to them, supported by Rompetrol and the Romanian Cultural Institute. Thus, the route of their personal development is contextualised, in a celebration of the beginnings of the road, as well as of the effervescence and courage of young talents.
