And Gabrielle Chanel is not the only one who believes in the power of a well put red lipstick. Dita von Teese, Marilyn Monroe, Gwen Stefani, Kristen Stewart… you cannot imagine them without a red lipstick. Because, let’s say it straight: anything, but anything, from sadness to a ugly break-heart, from illness to… a hot date, anything could be solved with a red lipstick.

Therefore, hurray to the red lipstick! Because this fall, Lucia Pica, Chanel Global Creative Makeup and Colour Designer, launched her first makeup collection for Chanel. Makeup Fall 2016 Collection – Le Rouge Collection N°1. “Red is intense, vulnerable, sexual and eternal”, says Lucia Pica. So she seeks to transform the traditional role of red, at once celebrating and subverting its classic status as the preeminent colour for lipstick, blush and nail varnish. “I am obsessed with the colour red, I always have been. There is strength and motion, warmth and disruption in red. Red is so strong for me and yet it is also intrinsic to the world of Chanel”.

Introduced in 1924, CHANEL’s red lipstick, both a signature of Gabrielle Chanel’s personal style and an icon of the beauty house. It was a fascination with this iconic red, and her own personal obsession with the colour in general – red is often a signature in her editorial work – that led Lucia Pica to explore the colour further.
