Fashion actually: the new wave of young designers from MDVTM 2025 generation

It was a very #fashionable evening. And I am very happy that the new wave of new and young Romanian designers is stronger than ever. 19 undergraduate and master collections of the 2025 generation from the Faculty of Arts and Design (West University) Timișoara – collections that reflect a variety of artistic, social and conceptual perspectives. How does the new wave of graduate designers from the Faculty of Arts and Design (West University) Timișoara see the fashion of the coming years? See below, in the collections presented at the MDVTM Gala 2025. (photo up – Andra Christina Tuță – photography: Dariana Dehelean, model: Francesca Fîntînariu, make-up: Bîrlădeanu Andreea Daniela)

The details that I liked…

The red accents at Timea Hosszu – her “Between Layers” collection explores the human fragility and vulnerability through a multilayered design, in tones of gray, black and white, with a few accents of deep red and many fabric inserts.

The sleeves at Andra Christina Tuță in “Shifting Shapes of Rebecoming” collection – which brought to the catwalk a series of “worn states”: from calm, to chaos and back, with volumes distortion, opposite texture, and the chromatics oscillate between soft tones and strong accents.

The Japanese technique at Ștefania Pitariu – in the spirit of kintsugi art, where cracks are not hidden, but highlighted as essential parts of an object’s story,”Perfected Fractures” collection visually explores the theme of the rebirth of the soul.

The buttons at Erin Beatrice Gregor collection (read here an interview with her two years ago – graduate collection) , used as a symbol for beautiful imperfection and the connection to tradition in “Past the Visible” collection, which explores the contrast between timeless emotion and personal expression.

The black ruffled bag at Andrada Negru – “Far from the Others” project explores the complex relationship between man and technology with pieces made from recycled materials, from scraps of fabrics and textiles left in warehouses, in a mix of traditional craftsmanship and digital technology.

The message (and the execution) at Miruna Petrescu in the “Yes or No?”collection, inspired by real stories of abuse victims. Through shapes, textures and colors, each garment suggests the dynamics of power relations, visible and invisible scars, as well as the search for a new balance after trauma.

The outfits that I love…

The masculine outfits at Timea Hosszu (excellent!). The black outfit (with puffer included) at Ana Bianca Ilieș – the volumes are beautifully layered (sash and tulle) in the “Black Widow” collection. The first outfit on the runway (the layering, the deconstructed pieces) at Roberta Bianca Meszar – the “Mucigai” collection explores the antithesis between beauty and ugliness, focusing on discovering the beauty hidden in imperfections – the collection reinterprets textures, colors and processes associated with decomposition, in an unusual manner. The neutral color outfit at Cristiana Coca Nedelcovici inspired by Romanian traditions – “Petale în timp” collection starts from the tranquility of the village and the love for Romanian traditions; through materials, ample cuts and details from the folk costume, it conveys the desire to keep the connection with the land.

The collections to put on my favorite list…

Erin Beatrice Gregor. Andrada Negru. Mario Birdean. Andra Dălcăran and her “Covenant” collection (a subtle critique of patriarchy as well as gender stereotypes) – constructed from diverse materials, from taffeta to denim and flannel. Stay tunned for more interviews with the designers on www.dreamingof.net.

The drama nice to watch…

Don Sebastian Mario – “Shattered Identity” collection – which explores how rigid social pressures and stereotypes destroy human identity with dramatic volumes, strong contrasts and elements inspired by dark aesthetics. Emma Năstase (with the “Core-Core” collection, one as interesting as her bachelor’s collection from two years ago – see here) – the materials used are a variety of random printed deadstock textiles or donations and scraps taken out of context.

And many nice things I have seen…

The coordinated collection of Christian Buză – “O lacrimă de lux” collection is a conceptual and aesthetic exploration of the femme fatale archetype, a timeless figure that combines sensuality with power, mystery with refinement, fragility with inner strength. The happy feeling and the message from Denisa Mocan – „Childhood Memories”, which talks about innocence and joy. The explosion of pink at Ana Samira Naomi – “Lucid Dream” collection (which explores childhood through the filter of affective memory and imagination) made the catwalk vibrate with pink outfits.

The colors of Patricia Natalia Ghiuriș – “Nebunie structurată” – a collection inspired by the desire for freedom, escape and the vibrant fantasy of amusement parks. The urban siren appearance at Elena Florina Radu in “Out of Her Element” collection. The deconstructed outfits at Georgiana Pănescu – “Web of Wisdom” collection positions itself at the intersection of textile art, fashion design, and activism, proposing a reconfiguration of the relationship between body, environment, and matter – by exploring the symbolism of the fungal kingdom, knit structures become a living-constructed network of connections.
