It will be, let’s say it, like a treasure hunt: to find the things you like, the things that are there for you, the pieces of jewelry with a message. Therefore, I have decided to make your mission (a little bit) easier and I have selected 5 Romanian jewelry designers, with special pieces and stories, to find at Romanian Jewelry Week 2026. “I chose jewelry because it is all-encompassing. Small and intimate, or bold enough to make a statement”, said one of the Romanian designers. And the special pieces are making statements, but also are taking about protecting and remaining open, accepting and repairing, about growth, transformation, and the beauty found in natural forms, about journey of life and the art of finding happiness in life’s smallest pleasures.

Andreea-Sorina Rîșcu – @thru.the.ring / Collection: Rupture & Repair

The main message of the collection presented at ROJW 2026 is… In Romanian, when something difficult happens, we almost immediately try to comfort the other person by telling them how strong they are, reassuring them that they’ll get over it. But I’ve come to believe that transformation asks for something else: not to get over it, but to get through it. Through the discomfort, the questions, the things we would rather leave untouched. This tension became the starting point for thru – the self-promise ring, a jewelry project that looks at human nature through the intimate commitments we make to ourselves in times of change. My first collection, Rupture & Repair, captures what unfolds when something breaks. A rupture disrupts the familiar and sets off a series of inner negotiations: between holding on and letting go, protecting and remaining open, accepting and repairing. Across five rings, these inner negotiations are translated into form, tracing the choices we make about what to carry forward, what to leave behind, and what is worth rebuilding.

From all the fashionable things, you chose to focus on jewelry because… jewelry can hold what words sometimes cannot. I come from the world of communication, where ideas usually remain intangible. Working with metal gave me a way to make thoughts, emotions and human experience physical. I also love the intimacy of jewelry. It stays close to the body, it carries traces of our experiences, and it can quietly reveal something about who we are, what we’ve been through, and what we’ve learned along the way. For me, a piece becomes truly meaningful when it reminds you of something you decided not to forget.

The perfect jewelry, the perfect city to wear it and the music that goes with that are… The perfect jewelry is the one that carries meaning without needing to explain itself. The perfect city could be anywhere, really. I think it matters more who I am when I’m walking through it. And the song would be Adele’s “I Drink Wine”. I’m not much of a wine drinker, but somehow this song captures the spirit of my collection: questioning, unlearning, letting go, and trying to find your way back to who you choose to become.

Chromatic – @ chromaticpearls / Collection: Gilded Growth

The main message of your collection presented at ROJW 2026… Our Gilded Growth collection revolves around the idea of growth, transformation, and the beauty found in natural forms. It starts with real elements from nature, pods and other organic forms that we dry and cast in bronze, and combines them with cultured pearls. It is our way of preserving something fragile and temporary, giving it a new life as jewelry and a drop of romanticism.

From all the fashionable things, you chose to focus on jewelry because… we like the idea of turning something ordinary into something precious. Jewelry gives us the freedom to notice a shape in nature, take it out of its original context and transform it into an object meant to be worn. There is something very satisfying about giving these small, overlooked forms a completely different life.

The perfect jewelry, the perfect city to wear it and the music that goes with that are… The perfect jewelry is something with character, a piece that feels a little unexpected and becomes part of the person wearing it. We imagine Gilded Growth in a city like Rome, where nature, history and beautifully aged surfaces coexist everywhere. And the music: Florence + The Machine, emotional, powerful and a little wild, echoing the collection’s sense of growth and transformation and romanticism.

Flavia Fabian – @fabian.flavia / Collection: In Transition

The main message of your collection presented at ROJW 2026… The collection grew out of a period of transition in my creative practice, when making itself became a way of moving forward. Instead of relying on my usual process of research and reflection, I allowed materials, shapes and textures to guide my intuition, without the expectation of finding an immediate meaning. In the end, “In Transition” is about trusting this process of experimentation and finding joy in exploring without yet understanding. Sometimes we need to understand in order to make, and sometimes we need to make in order to feel.

From all the fashionable things, you chose to focus on jewelry because… it is all-encompassing. Small and intimate, or bold enough to make a statement. It can carry identity, heritage, memories and a sense of belonging. In that way, jewelry feels like a very condensed sense of self.

The perfect jewelry, the perfect city to wear it and the music that goes with that are…
this collection’s peridot statement necklace, Copenhagen for its balance of functional precision and organic materiality, and Daft Punk’s “Veridis Quo” for its structured yet dreamlike atmosphere.

Romana Mateias – @romanamateias / Collection:  Living Architecture

The main message of your collection presented at ROJW 2026… The “Living Architecture” collection is a tribute to the journey of life, the dynamics of personal development as an explosion of vitality. In this vibrant stage, accumulated personal energy generates the emergence of an inner ecosystem. The cube and silver sprouts create a powerful imagery of transformation, embodying the essence of inner growth. The germination acts as the main metaphor for rising above hard limits to shine and grow utilizing the structure and clear boundaries we face in daily life.

From all the fashionable things, you chose to focus on jewelry because… When I was little, my father made jewelry, and I loved watching him work. As a ceramic artist, I have always wanted to use my ceramic elements to create jewelry. I felt the need to wear my ceramic works as jewelry, as precious ceramic miniatures, or wearable art. However, I did not have the knowledge of metalworking, so everything came to life when I found out about the jewelry courses at the Assamblage Contemporary Jewelry School in 2017.

The perfect jewelry, the perfect city to wear it and the music that goes with that are… Brooches are my favorite pieces of jewelry. When I wear a brooch, I feel a sense of elegance and exuberance that shifts my energy. I believe we possess a chameleon-like power to renew ourselves through the colors and ornaments we wear, absorbing the energy they – or their symbols – convey. I picture myself wearing an exuberant piece of jewelry amidst the atmosphere of Paris, accompanied by music that is elegant and sophisticated yet full of personality and sparkle – music that blends the opulence of the jewelry with the bohemian charm of Parisian streets, such as jazz or symphonic pop.

Valentina Cziko – @valentinacziko / Collection: The Wisdom of Joy

The main message of your collection presented at ROJW 2026… The Wisdom of Joy is, at its essence, the art of finding happiness in life’s smallest pleasures: sharing a coffee with someone we love, the delight of buying a pair of shoes simply because they made us smile, even if we have nowhere to wear them yet, or the quiet beauty of a sunset in a divine place discovered while traveling. This idea is reflected in the static form of the bird, captured in a moment of stillness and balance. I chose this position to highlight the elegance of its lines and the purity of its form. The white ceramic expresses simplicity and delicacy, while the gilded silver introduces light, warmth, and refinement. The bird does not fly towards somewhere; it remains present in the moment – just as we do when we allow ourselves to pause and truly appreciate what we already have.

From all the fashionable things, you chose to focus on jewelry because… I chose jewelry because it is an essential element of fashion. Clothing dresses the person, but jewelry brings them to life – it enhances their personality, expresses their individuality, and becomes an extension of their identity. Contemporary jewelry, however, can be more than a beautiful object. It can carry a story, an emotion, and an idea, revealing the creative world behind the piece and making the wearer part of that story.

The perfect jewelry, the perfect city to wear it and the music that goes with that are… The perfect piece of jewelry is the one you wear so naturally that you miss it when it is not there. It is the piece you want to wear everywhere – even to the beach – because it reminds you of someone dear, of a walk hand in hand, or of a moment you wish you could relive. For me, that memory could be Arles, in the south of France, a city of light and art, so deeply connected to the world of Vincent van Gogh. I imagine its warm streets, the golden evening light, a walk beside someone I love, and the street music of talented artists, turning every corner into a vivid and memorable experience. In this context, jewelry becomes more than an accessory: it becomes a little story you carry with you, a memory transformed into an object, and an emotion you can relive every time you wear it.
