Flash quiz with the young designer Erin Beatrice Gregor, from MDVTM 2023 

“Every box signify a different moment. And these boxes are full, empty and transformed, because in life we ​​will not always find a way to fill those voids, for which we so ardently search for a content”. I just loved that symbolistic of a collection that implied a lot of personal experiences. Therefore, I wanted to know more about the young designer Erin Beatrice Gregor, alumni of MDVTM 2023 and her collection “Connecting to…”.

Your collection (name) for MDVTM Fashion 2023 was inspired by… 

My collection entitled “Connecting to…”  for MDVTM Fashion Gala 2023 was inspired by the present that we truly feel, the pure moments in which we feel that we are here and now with our whole being. Our entire development and existence are made up of multiple pieces that we call experiences, and they complete the drawer that stores fragments from moments of our entire life.
The design project refers to these aspects of the moments we should live in the present, adding value to the connections between man and nature, or even inside – outside of ourselves.
The collection presents a collection of personal memories, feelings and experiences transposed through the digital prints that contain pure moments represented by different landscapes: rural or urban ones. Also, the concept is transposed through the symbol of the square that signifies different boxes containing different moments. The search process is continuous – and these boxes are full, empty and transformed, because in life we ​​will not always find a way to fill those voids, for which we so ardently search for a content… After all, we also wear stories with us…not just clothes. 

You choose those fabrics because…
The choice of fabrics has a high importance in the design project. Starting from their color, which is extracted from the photos taken by me that can be found in the digital prints from which emerges this refined chromatic range completed by white and cream shades, to their composition which is 100% natural. I chose these materials that have different compositions, to create this story based on the garments through various techniques and manipulations of materials such as overlays, cutouts and square shapes sewn and applied in various layers. The fabrics, through the relationship between rigid – fluid, warm – cold, textured – smooth, are an expression of these connections between the outside and the inside.

If you can define your collection with only one word, that would be… 
I think the word that describes the best my collection is… balance (a refined balance between the perfectly imperfect fragments of our lives).

Your first love encounter with the fashion world was…
The passion for art and fashion have been present for so long that I cannot remember a specific moment that marked this. But I think that one of the first real interactions with the world of fashion was when I realised that such beautiful things, emotions, and concepts can be expressed and through fashion and the best part of it is finding those creations of yours not only being admired but also worn by the public. 

The piece that will always be in your future collections will be… 
I think that one of the design components that will always remain present in my creation is the personal intervention on the surface design. Regardless of whether it is digital prints or textile manipulations, this brings an authenticity, a uniqueness, and expresses a product, a creation that also speaks about me and my personal imprint brought by thoughts, emotions or even habits.
