Sophia Webster: the fairy of shoes and bags
A dreamy pair of shoes with delicate wings, bags like popsicles, pumps with hidden messages, marine motifs on bags and sandals: the accessories’ world imagined by Sophia Webster is just fabulous! And, as always, super fun! No wonder that the British designer won this year British Fashion Council / Vogue Designer Fashion Fund (she had as opponents Emilia Wickstead, Mother of Pearl, Osman and Prism).

ABOUT THE COLLECTION – As for this summer, I am already in love with the coolest shoes and bags inspired by marine world. Yes, this season’s creative set-up for spring/summer 2016 Sophia Webster collection is designed for a Mermaid Launderette. Marine motifs graced every element of the shoes and bags – from more simple multi-strap sandals printed in a rippling sea-blue tie-dye, to Webster’s signature witty slogans, including “Beach Baby” and “Naughty Cool”.
I saw marine motifs on heels and clutches, sandals covered with deep-sea coral, multi-strap sandals printed in a sea-blue tie-dye, as well as statement thigh-high sandals with multicolored netting up the leg, which will not be for the faint-hearted. Add to that models sporting swimming caps and vintage-inspired bathing suits and the picture of a sea&sun&sand fairytale is perfect.
ABOUT THE DESIGNER – Sophia Webster debuted her collection for spring/summer 2013 after working as design assistant to Nicholas Kirkwood. She is a graduate of the specialized MA footwear course at the Royal College of Art and the BA degree at the renowned Cordwainers College. Since then, Sophia Webster put award after award on her shelves (New Gen Award for all of her first three seasons by the British Fashion Council and British Fashion Award for Emerging Accessories Designer are just some of them). www.sophiawebster.com
