Colours. Always colours. A lot of sophisticated cuts and interesting textures. The New York based designer Sies Marjan is a stars’ darling, already, only at his fifth collection. And a designer to watch closely.
About fall/winter 2018 collection. It is a very colourful one. As Dutch creative director Sander Lak (the creative behind the brand) said, “When I was a child and we lived in Gabon in central Africa, we were basically in the middle of the rainforest. My mom, to make sure that she could see us in the garden outside, would dress us in bright red or really bright blue.” This season, fall/winter 2018/2019, we saw ombrés and dégradés in twisted whirls, overlay sheers, and fair furs. Long dresses and sleek suits, shiny topcoats and holographic parka, satin dresses with a structured twist at the middle.
About the designer. The company was founded in 2016 by designer Sander Lak, who is technically Dutch but spent his childhood living all over the world, including Brunei, Scotland, Malaysia and Africa, and has now put down roots in New York. The brand, named after his parents (Sies is his father’s name, Marjan his mother’s), generated major buzz and industry interest right from the very first show in FW16. The list of women spotted wearing it includes Beyoncé, Zoë Kravitz and Zoe Saldana, along with a host of influencers from Veronika Heilbrunner to Caroline de Maigret.
