What is the definition of fashion, from your point of view? What does it mean to you, personally?

Fashion nowadays is a weapon and a tool. More and more designers use their collections to protest, to defend ideas or to address political issues. On the other hand, in the past, fashion was used to signal your status. We used to dress to let people know who we are, I think that nowadays we dress to show people who we want to be. And for me, personally, fashion is an old friend that was there for me, helping me to express my identity and to tell my stories.

What is the biggest challenge for a young designer nowadays?

I’ll have to say getting people’s attention and staying true to one’s self. Nowadays there’s content everywhere, capitalism and consumerism rule stronger than ever. There’s a storm of information out there and sailing through all these waves of products, trends and fast fashion can be really exhausting for a young designer.

The icon piece that will always be in your collections is…

I don’t have an icon piece, but there is something that I always make sure to add to my collection, and that is symbolism. I’m a storyteller, that’s what I do, creating visual metaphors and hidden messages is what drives me towards this art form, my collections are pages of my diary.

About your collection presented at RDW 2023…

Martyrium is a fashion collection with seven outfits born out of the process of knowing the inner self, from the desire of understanding the human body even through overwhelming fabrics, cuts, details and embroideries. Martyrium is a collection like a diary, meant to offer an homage to those who had suffered from depression, something that the artist has experienced herself.

What is next, for you, this year? Collections, personal projects, exhibitions etc.

This year I’ll be focusing more on my other passion, sculpting. Ever since my college years I balanced my attention between sculpting and fashion, and now it’s time for me to take a break from making clothes and start creating with different materials. Its not a “goodbye”, it’s a “‘till later”.
