Into the Fabulous Garden of Chanel Haute Couture

“The starting point for this collection was the silhouette”, declared Karl Lagerfeld after the Spring/Summer 2016 Chanel Haute Couture collection shown at Grand Palais in Paris, one of my favorite shows at this season.

Lightweight materials and natural colours define this springtime (almost) zen-like wardrobe where embroidery composed from fragments and shavings of wood mingle with bees embroidered onto tulle or mounted as costume jewellery in a collection as delicate as a poesy. Even the show this year was imagined in a huge space with lawns of a minimalist garden, lily ponds and a wood pavilion, Karl Lagerfeld didn’t forget the actual century we are living in… So, a smartphone pouch is matching every outfit.
He focuses on short tweed jackets with oval sleeves, worn with long pencil skirts, or fitted jackets coupled with full skirts or flared culottes. I couldn’t take my eyes from the chignons and the geometric Asian-mood make-up! Queen of this rediscovered nature, the bride appears dressed in a geometric lace strapless dress embroidered with bursts of chiffon, leather, wood shavings, beads and rhinestones, kept warm by a hooded jacket with a train.
