4 #art exhibition to beat the heat

If you want some cold air and some goose bumps on your hand, enter into a art gallery. This month I will recommend you some art works to remind you of sea and sand, a cool display perfect to celebrate World Cup final and an amazing Ștefan Câlția artistic journey in Sibiu, 4 #art exhibition to beat the heat.

The OFFSIDE (Ofsaid. Planuri, goluri și puncte) exhibition – SAC/Bucharest at Mincu Gallery (Academiei 18-20 street) – until 12 of September – @sacbucharest. The exhibition explores themes of togetherness, socio-political contexts, and modern capitalism through a contemporary art lens. Loved the Ion Bârlădeanu collages about football, the Swedish melted sculptures and the crowded photos of  Willi Dorner & Lisa Rastl.

Aerosoli exhibition – Sandwich Gallery at Vila Catena (closed between 2 – 30 August) – @sandwich.gallery. The exhibition is a dialogue between the seaside of Black Sea and the artists. The exhibition’s concept starts from the dual metaphor of marine aerosols – those fine particles of salt, iodine, and minerals whipped up by the waves, known as a natural remedy for the body. Similarly, the works selected for display in the rooms of Villa Catena are presented as a genuine cure for the soul and mind. They are meant to be inhaled by the viewer, settling in fine layers within.
Artists: George Apostu, Sasha Bandi, Dan Beudean, Alexandra Boaru, Lucian Bran, Iulia Bucureșteanu, Codruța Cernea, Tudor Ciurescu, Andrei Costache, Lorena Cocioni, Otto Constantin, Cristina Countas, Irina Cristescu, Vasile Gorduz, Ioana Gorzo, Teodor Graur, Keti Kapanadze (GE), Thea Lazăr, Cristina Licurici, Diana Manole, Daniela Pălimariu, Theodor Pallady, Radu Pandele, Gheorghe Petrașcu, Adrian Preda, Melinda Rus, Cristian Răduță, Ramon Sadîc, Decebal Scriba, Larisa Sitar, Daniel Spoerri, Nadina Stoica, Leo Toteanu, Marco Verhoogt.

Felipe Cohen, Concretion, at Gaep Gallery (Giuseppe Garibaldi 8 street) – until 25 of July – @gaep.gallery. A solo exhibition by Brazilian artist, that includes a series of new sculptures and reliefs that use geometric forms and materials (like wood, tracing paper, and marble) to explore the passage of time and natural light. Using an artistic lexicon grounded in geometric forms, economy of means, and poetic sensibility, Cohen seeks to solidify fluid states, materialize abstract or evanescent phenomena, and transform moments into memories. Embedded within his work is an understanding of abstraction not as a cold or purely rational language, but as a vehicle that engages the viewer’s imagination and emotions. As the artist describes them, his sculptures are “a metaphor for sculptural making”, the result of a reflection on the very meaning of this artistic act.

Transilvania | Extravaganza – Ștefan Câlția (Sibiu, Mânăstirea Ursulinelor, Gen. Magheru 34-36) – until 16 of August – @fundatiastefancaltia. 80 beautiful art works of the Romanian artist Ștefan Câlția are on display in Sibiu and the journey through the paintings, the bohemian garden and the beautiful setups are a true medicine for mind and soul. Curated by Liviana Dan, the exhibition is conceived as an expansive journey through the artist’s recurring themes: nature, place, theater, and the spiritual dimension. Hosted by the Ursuline Monastery, the unique exhibition unfolds across the building’s vaulted corridors and historic halls, creating a route that serves as both a visual experience and a space for reflection. At the same time, the project contributes to the building’s revitalization: the “Ambulance for Monuments” is carrying out stabilization work on a section of the structure. Ticket proceeds will support the “Ambulance for Monuments” in its future projects. Transilvania | Extravaganza is organized by the Ștefan Câlția Foundation, Posibilă Gallery, and the Artep Gallery Association, in collaboration with the Brukenthal National Museum and the Sibiu International Theatre Festival.
