4 exhibitions for a weekend tour
It is going to be a fast-forward recommendation. It is going to be intense, nonetheless. A lot of events that celebrates Brâncuși’s year, some new artists in town, poetry mixed with art and some impressive sculpture art works.
1. MARe – 2 exhibitions are waiting for us here.
* Firstly, “Photographs by Constantin Brâncuși” (Vintage Prints in Dialogue with Carl Andre, Marion Baruch, and Evariste Richer – 22.05 – 27.09.2026). For Brâncuși, photography was not mere documentation, but a sustained practice used to perceive and re-examine his own sculptural works. This exhibition has three parts: The Studio in Space Views of Brâncuși’s sculptures within his studio, arranged in relation to other works and plinths, paired with a work by Carl Andre; The Backdrop and the Monochrome Views featuring studio backdrops, used to control the photographic frame and neutralize surroundings, presented alongside Les Fonds by Evariste Richer; The Outdoor Monument Views of the Târgu Jiu ensemble in situ, framed with varying degrees of sky and presence of nature, set in conversation with Traiettorie by Marion Baruch. https://mare.ro/
* Secondly, “Bernard Frize” (22.05 – 16.08.2026) – an unprecedented solo exhibition dedicated to French painter Bernard Frize. His unique pictorial practice offers a stimulating perspective within the Romanian artistic landscape through a generous selection of over 40 paintings developed since 1980. Frize’s work is the result of a rigorous analytical process where specific methodologies, mechanical gestures, and predefined protocols allow the unforeseen to emerge. https://mare.ro/
2. IOMO Gallery – “In the Body Lies the Truth” (14.05-13.06.2026) is a group exhibition curated by Thom Oosterhof featuring works by Billy Gibney, Arthur Lemonier, Sam Lipp, Graham Silveria Martin, Alejandra Moros, Justin O’Brien, Nathan Ritterpusch, Zoe Schweiger, Liu Xin. In an age where screens can distort, voices can be scripted, and algorithms curate our very reality, where do we find a truth that is untainted? When language is easily weaponized and the image is infinitely malleable, we are left with one reliable archive, the body. https://iomogallery.com/
3. Galateea Contemporary Art Gallery – “CORPUS”, presenting the works of Faroese artist Guðrið Poulsen (18.05-15.06.2026). The exhibition proposes a reflection on the ways in which the body becomes a fundamental instrument of perception and orientation in the world. In the curatorial reading, Guðrið Poulsen’s works are connected to the phenomenological view that the body is the locus of memory, gestures, and trajectories that structure experience. Each object becomes an essentialized expression of the contact between body and world, and the exhibition as a whole forms a coherent organism of shapes, rhythms, and memories in which lived experience and the materiality of clay reflect one another. https://www.galateeagallery.com/galateea-gallery.html
4. POiESiS (16.05-24.05.2026) at Casa Kerim, Bucharest – the third edition of POiESiS, a spring mini-festival that brings together visual arts and performing arts in a living, hybrid, and open format. Exhibitions, poetry, live music, performances, and book launches all take place in the same space, shaping a continuous artistic experience unfolding over nine days. It is organized by Hearth Association, Bucharest Collage Collective and Celula de Artă. The theme this year is “Brâncuși. Muses. Love stories” – is an invitation to reimagine the relationships between love, inspiration and creations, a link between past and present.
