13 things to know about RADAR 2024 

An art festival? Of course! And not a regular one – at the beginning of October 2024, we are going to see one of the most interesting new media art festivals, RADAR New Media Art festival. 1. RADAR, the largest multidisciplinary new media art festival, which combines art with emerging technologies and nature, is pushing the boundaries of new media art with a line-up of international artists from France, Poland, Denmark, Portugal, Hungary, Ukraine, and Bulgaria. 

2. Over 20 immersive art installations by Romanian and international artists will be showcased on October 4-6 at Caro Hotel for the 5th edition of RADAR New Media Art festival.  

3. The 2024 edition is created around the event’s central theme – Future Nature. The festival will also feature digital artworks by independent artists and studios from Romania.

4. The new media art installations presented in the exhibition utilize interactive mediums such as Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality, Artificial Intelligence, video mapping, and various interactive sensors, allowing the audience to become active collaborators.

5. The artists featured at the festival invite the public to contemplate the future of nature, not just as a physical environment but as a dynamic force that shapes our habits, lifestyles, and modes of entertainment.

6. During the festival, digital works by artists and independent studios from Romania will also be presented, as well as a special section made in partnership with UNATC, dedicated to students and graduates of the ITPMA master’s program, which celebrates its 7th anniversary in 2024. These artists have been constantly present at the RADAR festival since the first edition, contributing to its growth and diversification. 

7. From 7 PM to 10 PM each day, the festival will host a live audiovisual performance stage – AV Stage -, combining music with projections, allowing participants to enjoy incredible sound and visual shows created by some of the most creative national and international minds in this artistic field. This section is curated by Dilmana Yordanova and co-financed by AFCN.

8. The festival also has a special Kids section, where the juniors can interact with light and sound installations created especially for them by artists from Romania, France and Denmark. 

9. For three days, more than 8 interactive and educational experiences will captivate children and allow them to explore and control an evolving, fantastical world.  

10. Table Sonore, one of the installations from the Kids area, invites participants to create a musical score on an interactive sound table. As the children rearrange the blocks on the giant musical staff, a new collective harmony is created, with the melody changing in real time as the blocks move.

11. Tickets are available on the festival website and on entertix.ro, on this link for general RADAR access and here for RADAR Kids access, at the price of 50 lei for adults and 40 lei for children. Group and student discounts are available.

12. Tickets give you access to RADAR Kids for 2 hours and full day access to RADAR Main. Free entry for children aged 0-3 (accompanied by an adult). Recommended age for interacting with the installations is 4 to 10 years. 

13. Schedule: 4-6 October, 11:00-21:00 – Caro Hotel.
