#RomanianDesigners that I loved at Mercedes-Benz Bucharest Fashion Week 2025

A lot of exquisite details, a bunch of beautiful white dresses, interesting cuts, drawings seen on the capes, traditional motifs reinterpreted. These were, some of the lovable outfits that I saw at Mercedes-Benz Bucharest Fashion Week 2025 signed by #RomanianDesigners.

What did I like?

1. The theme for competition Next Generation – Fashion Talent Award was “Cultural Heritage in Fashion: A Bridge Between Tradition and Innovation”. The finalists: Roxana Tudor (“DOR”), Melisa Savu (“NUCA”), Genghiz Beghim (“Common Thread”), Azime Őnder (“Contemporary Eternity”), Bogdan Bodros (“Dansul Ursului – The Bear Dance”), Rebeca Andreea Neagu (“Roots”), Ioana Dodoloi (“Petrichor”), Ema-Sara Cârpușor (“Blooming Heritage”) și Darius Boar (“Rituals Undone”), have presented a range of cool rewritten codes of traditions (from Romanian shoes or embroidery to Tatar or Mongol heritage)  The winner: talented Mara Popa (from UAD Fashion Cluj-Napoca), with “Thread Across Time” — read the interviews with her here & here

2. The collective collection of Moldavian designers – OK KINO, Valentina Vidrașcu, Yulia Efros, Katea Gri and Storojuc. Just loved them all and wanna take them all home with me. If last year, Moldavian designers were presented in a exhibition of fashion, this year, they took the runway. AndI was really impressed by the delicate outfits send on the runway by Valentina Vidrașcu (and the scenography with little bells dangling  in the room), the impeccable cuts of Storojuc  & OK KINO dresses and skirts, the white outfits from Katea Gri and Yulia Efros.

3. The individual collections – ALMAZ, Carmen Secăreanu, Medeea, Murmur, Borbala, M.Marquise.

The ALMAZ SS26 collection was a statement of feminine strength, a tribute to the woman who transforms vulnerability into strength. Carmen Secăreanu’s SS26 collection combined sustainability with poetic chaos with recycled fabrics, hemp, linen and vintage embroideries merged with silk and lace. BORBALA redefined the idea of recycling as an aesthetic gesture the designer transformed textile scraps into works of clothing. MEDEEA SS26 brought an introspective perspective on femininity. Classic materials (cotton, wool, silk) were united with metallic inserts and industrial cuts. In collaboration with Emilian Pospaii, under the curatorship of Marian Pălie, the collection became a wearable diary, an embroidered poem about memory and vulnerability. Rhea Costa has presented a collection designed for the modern, independent woman, these pieces celebrate the balance between femininity and power. Each garment is masterfully crafted.“A Manifesto of Light and Joy” was the theme for M.Marquise, transposed in a celebration of light and pure joy, in silk, Mikado, Solstiss lace and sparkling appliqués.
