Silvia Sibi Stanciu – a new artist, designer at Diploma Show 2023
The trends are changing every day. Creativity remains a constant, though, in our life. And fashion is an important part of the manifestation of our creativity. I believe we cannot live (or at least, we don’t wanna to) and I think Fashion Design chapter of Diploma Show 2023 is the place to find my future #fashioncrushes. Look closely at the new generation of young Romanian fashion designers and their interesting collections. Today, from the Fashion Design chapter of Diploma Show 2023, I present you Silvia Sibi Stanciu.

What is the definition of fashion, from your point of view? What does it mean to you, personally?
For me, fashion is a form of expression, of communication. The outfit we choose to wear describes our personality and defines the first impression about us, long before starting a dialogue. For me, Fashion is a feeling, a state, an experience. When you’re dressed right, following the trends, your energy is on high frequencies, and so is your self-esteem.
What is the biggest challenge for a young designer nowadays?
I believe that the biggest challenge of a young designer is positioning on the market, and then maintaining that position. It is an industry with challenges at every step, very high fluctuations, therefore the enthusiasm can decrease over time, despite passion and creativity.
Tell us why we should look for your pieces at Diploma Show 2023.
Beyond the visual experience that the collection “Hello, can you hear me?” offers, it also has a social dimension: our inability to listen to each other, despite hearing us. Every piece has a story and every story has a place in my heart. Look, one of my favourite pieces is the white jacket full of ears. A detail of this piece is an embroidered text: “Ceci n’est pas une oreille”, a reinterpretation of René Magritte’s famous work. This piece contains the whole concept of the collection: This is not an ear. This is a manifesto for listening.
Another surprising piece is the pale pink jacket, with two oversized ears attached to the back that suggest the presence of wings. A subtle detail, discovered at a closer look, is an embroidered text that represents the reinterpretation of a surrealist poem, written by Alejandra Pizarnik. The text I’m talking about is, and I will say it in Romanian to preserve it`s meaning: “asCULT tăcerea muzicală a îmbrățișărilor.”
The manifesto of these elements is to be present in every moment, to collapse in the moment, to listen, feel, and live the moment and to charge ourselves with the energy of that moment. Like a hug. I believe that when we remember to listen to each other (not just hear each other), we will become good again, calm, empathetic, understanding, generous, we will move away from individualism and get closer to the angels.
The perfect fashion item for you is… Why?
For me, the perfect Fashion item is the one that highlights both my physical features and the rest of the items in my wardrobe, that makes me feel good when I wear it, made from organic materials and that must be durable and timeless. A genuine leather jacket, for example.
What is next, for you, this year? Collections, personal projects, exhibitions etc.
Between October 7 – 15 you can see my collection “Hello, can you hear ME?” at the Diploma Show. Between October 1st and November 5th, two of the pieces from the collection “Hello, can you hear me?” will be exhibited at the Blue Biennale exhibition in Brașov. I am following several events and exhibitions where I want to present this collection, both locally and internationally. I will announce my presence there if it concretizes. I carefully select the events I go to and I am always emotional about them.
Also, I work on two projects. A new Fashion collection and an art collection which will be a continuation of the message sent through the “Hello, can you hear me?” collection. Most likely, for both, the launch will take place next year.
