In a Barbie world: about Alexandru Ghencea collection

Pink and sequins. Glitter and so much fun. These were, for short, the main features for Alexandru Ghencea “Bald Barbie” collection, presented at Timișoara Fashion School (MDVTM) Gala. “To be under-rated is not necessarily the worst thing can happen to someone. It may give us a kick that push us to rise, to grow and to get away from the sadness. To demonstrate that we are better”, said Alex Ghencea about his collection. And how better way to cast away the sadness (and to prove I do not care about what other people may say) I could find than pink and glitter? Even the rain stopped in Timișoara when I was in the streets, in one of (probably) most craziest outfits I have tried lately.

Your journey in the fashion world has started with…  my last year of high school when I finally realised that this is the only thing that I can see myself doing.

Your graduation collection is about… the underestimation and the power to overcome it.

The headline in a newspaper about your collection would be… “Rising above all with the help of fashion”.

The hardest moment as the young designer was, until now… constantly trying to evolve, in general.

The ultimate fashion icon for you is… Rihanna.

You would like your signature look (piece) to be, in the future… shiny and bold pieces.

On your moodboard we can find – a city / a classic movie / a piece of art… New York for the amazing diversity, The Rocky horror picture show, “The broken column” by Frida Kahlo.

The designer you would like to ask for a coffee and a piece of advice would be… Martin Margiela.

What is next for you? Getting my masters degree and continue evolving.
