Danish design: Anne Sofie Madsen
I still remember my first encounter with Anne Sofie Madsen designs, during the Paris Fashion Week, last spring. And I still remember the invitation, sort of a rock’n roll page with a Scandinavian cool touch. Danish designer Anne Sofie Madsen was groomed at Galliano and McQueen, so maybe that is the reason that an avantgarde approach to design is part of her creative imagination. Anne Sofie Madsen Resort Collection 2016 emerged from an image she found of the interior of an Eighties strip club in parts unknown. A leather patchwork dress is covered in appliqués that included mirrored paillettes, metallic balls and an leather flower, based on a Japanese design motif. Madsen took the trench and had it come undone, appearing to be two coats — a thigh-length khaki trench layered as if falling off the other with asymmetrical plackets and belts hanging from wrist cuffs. After launching her own line in 2011, Anne Sofie Madsen has already taken the world by storm. In 2014, she was invited as an official member of the Ready-to-Wear calendar in Paris, after previously showing in London and Copenhagen. As one of Denmark’s brightest talents, she has been featured in various publications and she has also gained a following amongst artists and celebrities, with the likes of Rihanna, MØ, Ciara and Oh Land wearing her designs.
