4 exhibitions to see this weekend
Cold outside? Get inside the art galleries and be amazed by the new art works of some talented artists. For this end of the month, I would recommend you 4 exhibitions to see (and love).
The artistic season has just started and I am more than happy to see some of the latest works of some talented artists.
Arsmonitor – @arsmonitor – We are pleased to announce Gili Mocanu’s new solo exhibition, titled “As If” (until January 22nd).
This is the artist’s third exhibition in collaboration with this gallery and presents a series of new works in which the artist brings before the public his most recent painterly inquiries into the theme of light. Gili Mocanu’s painting once again surprises by placing in radical dialogue a traditional theme-light being one of the oldest and most profound problems in the history of art-and a contemporary stance, in which the image itself is subjected to critical questioning. One more surprise: a special publication dedicated to Gili Mocanu’s poetry, a facet of his practice less familiar to the art-going public.

Mobius Gallery – @mobiusgallery & Kontakt Association – “Pain of the Shoe: (In)visible Fragments” by Natalia Silaghi, the winner of Ecaterina Vrana Prize for Young Artists (at Mezanin, Palatul Universul, until 31st of January 2026).
The shoes we love end up hurting us, that is the pure truth. “Pain of the Shoe” by Ecaterina Vrana captures this simple truth: living is never without pressure. Natalia Silaghi’s works explore this idea further. Between presence and absence, the artist chooses to focus on life, present in her works through imperfect objects and subtle textures that usually escape attention.
National Museum of Art – @muzeulnationaldearta – “RomanIA – the identity representation of folk costume in art” (curator: Erwin Kessler) – 21st of November – 8 February 2026.
From painting and sculpture, to graphics, photography, objects, installations, film, music, posters, fashion, stamps, playing cards, vases, banknotes, books, albums, cartoons and school textbooks – IA (la blouse Roumaine). Including the famous painting signed by Henri Matisse, for the first time in Romania.
Melange Cafe & Go Art Projects – contemporary art in a coffee shop: “Memory / Matter – Remaking the Archive” – @goartprojects & @melange_cafe.ro
The exhibition brings together four internationally visible artists – Anca Boeriu, Weaam El Masry, Adriana Florea Băloiu and Petru Lucaci – and talks about how what we experience is placed in invisible layers that, through art, take shape and become an active, always reconfigured memory. “Memory / Matter – Remaking the Archive” talks about memory as a living process. Some works start from the body and gesture, others from color, surface and emotion, but all have in common the idea of a trace: what remains after a moment, a feeling, an experience.
