The crush: Mansur Gavriel Spring/Summer 2017 Collection

March 14th, 2017 / by / in: Cool things / No responses

The first-ever collection of Mansur Gavriel (www.mansurgavriel.com) was sold out in a month. And the phenomena is repeating over and over, every season, since 2013. The overnight sensation of IT bags of the century was generating a Birkin-esque waiting lists for the colourful handbags. And it probably would do the same with the lovely Spring/Summer 2017 bags collection. Don’t take my word for it: just look at the images below!

I had a huge crush on the bags since I saw one of Instagram, at the beginning of 2014. At that time, the whole collection was sold out, so there was no chance for me to get one, no matter what. Later, I found out the, when Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel decided to present their first handbag line and they post the first picture on Instagram, they had over 700 comments at that post. And a 95% of the stock sold out within an hour.

Some years later, I saw the name Mansur Gavriel again, on the list of the best fashion awards – CFDA Swarovski Award for Accessory Design in 2015, as well as the CFDA Accessory Designer of the Year Award in 2016.

The cofounders Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel have been working on the line since 2011, via e-mail (Rachel was living in Los Angeles and Floriana in Berlin). “We felt that there wasn’t a bag in the contemporary space that we wanted,” Mansur says. In 2012, the duo converged in New York and began the sourcing process. While they chose to manufacture in China, the leather was sourced in Italy, and post-assemblage process was done there, too.
