It is OK to go… Cuckoo. Only in Agnieszka Polska exhibition

Dropped tears on the written words, an allegoric video story of the modern society, prints on textiles and an obsessive sound of the bird named cuckoo: I tell you, the Agnieszka Polska first solo exhibition, Cuckoo, in Warsaw is not to be missed if you are passing by Kasia Michalski Gallery (www.kasiamichalski.com).

The exhibition Cuckoo could be seen at Kasia Michalski Gallery, between January 19th – March 23rd, 2017, organized in collaboration with Zak | Branicka, Berlin.
Agnieszka Polska has had solo exhibitions at the New Museum, New York (2016), Nottingham Contemporary (2014), and Salzburger Kunstverein (2013).

What I should look for in the gallery?

The video piece, of course, My Little Planet (2016), one of the latest works of Agnieszka Polska, recounting an an allegorical story of a society in which time is being measured by the movements of daily-use objects rotating around the planet: a Marlboro butt, a bottle cap and a sticking plaster.

But for sure I will look for my favourites: the graphic works of the artist, printed on photographic paper and framed. And especially for Bitter Tears of Ayn Rand 1 and 2 (2017) – photo below – directly point to the figure of Ayn Rand, and include an excerpt of her text (when working on the new series, Polska said she had a surreal vision of Ayn Rand regretting her writings and the situation they led to, and then shedding colorful tears over her texts).

“I think that the setup will, in a poetic fashion, present the hidden traumas of a late-capitalistic society, forced to normalise the constant feeling of fear (haha, sounds a bit dramatic but the humour is present in this show as well)”, said the artist.
