What is the definition of fashion, from your point of view? What does it mean to you, personally? Fashion is a language. Its probably the most accessible and visible medium for self expression. It speaks about one’s personality, interests, traditions, values, or about how he/she is feeling at a certain point without having to say a word. Most of us literally dress accordingly to who we want to be in that day or situation. So fashion is also a tool that gives us the possibility to play as adults because, (isn’t it true?!), self adorning can be a guilty pleasure.
What is the biggest challenge for a young designer nowadays?
Well I’ve been in the industry for a while now to understand that the biggest challenge for a young designer can be the lack of education regarding business. Just being talented won’t guarantee your success in this industry. It takes knowledge and understanding of the business world, strategy and an assertive mindset, all of which are built within years of experience.
Tell us why we should look for your pieces at Diploma Show 2023.
My creations are very dear to me as they are a very personal interpretation of my hobbies (wind and water sports). The collection is made up of wearable art installations that can be read as a manifesto against pollution, in the sense that they were made 100% out of recycled materials (wetsuits, old kites, kite lines and other elements used into practicing wind and water sports).
The perfect fashion item for you is… Why?
Happiness. Intelligence, positive energy, a good personality and a sense of style can help you transform any item in the perfect item. Over the years I’ve learned that it is not about a specific item, but more about how we feel about ourselves while wearing something. I’ve felt happy and pretty in inexpensive clothes as well as cried while wearing luxury brands. In the end, it always comes down to how you feel and what you express at a certain point, regardless of what items you could be wearing.
What is next, for you, this year? Collections, personal projects, exhibitions etc.
Regarding my work, first in line is the participation at DIPLOMA Show. Besides that, I will continue working as an art professor and designer, will continue my studies for PHD in visual arts, will further explore the possibilities of upcycling and recycling in art installation as well as working on a collection of sport garments made out of kite fabrics (children and adults (unisex). As well, my personal life is very full of diverse experiences, I am a very physically active person, a wife and a mother, we practice a lot of sports together and travel a lot.
