How to wear stripes: the 4 days’ guide
Coco Chanel and Pablo Picasso made them famous. And the street style fashion trendsetters included stripes in all kind of outfits, from casual to elegant ones. The stripes come back every season, no matter if we find them in the lightness of a summer dress of in the softness of a cashmere sweater. I love them, so maybe there was no surprise when I ended up with four striped tops and two different black and white jackets in my suitcase. But I didn’t get bored. Because I think that every striped piece, from simple T-shirts or the classic marinière pullover to complicated ruffles dresses or fluid silk scarfs, has its own charm. Here there were my choices for 4 days trip.
And some tips for pulling off an easy chic outfit…
- Try to stay in the same coloristic area when you mix stripes with stripes. Black and white with navy blue and white are acceptable variations. Maybe sometimes you can add with a hint of red or purple.
- Never, but never buy something that has black and yellow stripes: it will make you look like a gigantic wasp. You don’t want that!
- Keep the accessories simple, unless you go to a costumed party. The shoes and the bag are better to be without to many logos, embellishments or drawings.
- Don’t go with horizontal stripes when you don’t have a perfect figure. Try vertical ones and keep the combo into the blue and white combo area.
- If you like stripes but you don’t feel like you are ready to wear a full outfit, try a scarf with blue, pink and white stripes over a white dress or go for some striped flats or espadrilles. Comfy and stylish.
