7 black & white outfits I loved at Fashion Weeks spring/summer 2024
You know me – colours are pretty nice, but for my everyday outift I will always choose black & white. Therefore, here we go – I have selected 7 outfits in black & white from the Fashion Weeks with spring/summer 2024 collections. One for each day of the week.
Miu Miu – the collection imagined by Miuccia Prada has a sporty vibe, but in casual & fun way. The black (or navy blue) shorts, the college blazers, the T-shirts… As the designer says, the collection is “embracing of unique characters, the joy of life”. There’s been a lot of noise in the industry about the need for “real” clothes. And I really think that the Miu Miu polo shirts, Oxford shirts, trench coats, and school uniform jackets were all the answer – of course, paired with Prada’s favorite underpants or funny short frilly techno-tutus topped with tracksuit drawstring waistbands. www.miumiu.com.
Sacai – I have always loved Sacai outfits (and I wrote a lot about them – here and here). The cuts, the simplicity but extraordinary at the same time, the feeling of “the right clothes to have for every day”. The collection for Spring/Summer 2024 imagined by the designer Chitose Abe is no different. We can see unexpected pattern cutting and construction, slashes and cuts, and an off-center asymmetry, camisoles and slip dresses that are attached to their outer coat / shirt components to make a new shape… “The more simple we are, the more complete we become” says the designer. https://www.sacai.jp/
Alexander McQueen – “This collection is inspired by female anatomy, Queen Elizabeth I, the blood red rose and Magdalena Abakanowicz, a transgressive and powerfully creative artist who refused ever to compromise her vision. The show is dedicated to the memory of Lee Alexander McQueen, whose wish was always to empower women, and to the passion, talent and loyalty of my team”, says Sarah Burton, Creative Director (for the last time in this position). I liked the red insertions, but the most I loved this litte black dress, powerful and soft at the same time. www.alexandermcqueen.com
Givenchy – Artistic director Matthew M Williams presented his vision of contemporary elegance with the silhouettes of the Givenchy Spring-Summer 2024 women’s collection at École Militaire in Paris. The silhouettes oscillate between structure and ease, black monochromes and gracious pastels, thick and diaphanous fabrics. As always, a sort of gentleman’s tailoring is present (on bare skin sometimes). Plays of layered transparency are sprinkled throughout the collection as gloves highlight the curves of the arms, and pointed pumps are encased in translucent stockings. I loved the black costume – a power look for every day. www.givenchy.com
Chanel – I loved this Spring/Summer 2024 collection of the French brand. “This Spring-Summer 2024 Ready-to-Wear collection is an ode to liberty and to movement, and tells a story that has its origins in the gardens of the villa Noailles”, says the designer Virginie Viard. The annual Festival d’Hye is the source of the inspiration the a beautiful collection – dressing gowns in multicoloured, black or pink tweed, and jackets in striped terrycloth of every colour, suits in neoprene, dresses and trousers in lace adorned with floral motifs, striped Bermuda shorts, bathing suits, organza babydolls, sportswear and evening dresses all take the same sun-kissed path. www.chanel.com
Valentino – The Valentino Ready-to-Wear Spring/Summer 2024 collection showcased at Paris Fashion Week was held at Paris’ École Nationale, featuring a live performance by British artist FKA Twigs along with a troupe of dancers. The show subtly hinted at a form of naturalism or a back-to-basics approach. The simplicity of t-shirts, jeans, and shirts reflected direct engagements with the body, while tailoring in cotton poplin mirrored the soft, voluptuous curves of the female form. I would choose the short white dress for every day of the summer to come. https://www.valentino.com
Victoria Beckham – My favourite, so far, all seasons. Black, white, beiges and blue, with soft lines and fluid fabrics. Ribbed knit bodysuits are worn with sleek cardigans and semi-structured jumpers are paired with cheeky knickers. The jersey T-shirt of dancewear adapts into a multitude of silhouettes which were worn with collapsible, square leather gym bags that can be carried as holdalls, handbags or a cross-body bags. Staples of provincial English interiors – the embroidery of a tablecloth, the Broderie Anglaise – add a touch of comfort to pure white cotton dresses signed by Victoria Beckham. https://www.victoriabeckham.com/
